New £1m railway car park near quiet village is used by three cars in first week

Councillors in Cambridgeshire village blame working from home and summer holidays for the low uptake as residents blast ‘waste of money’

A massive railway car park costing £1m has been used by just three cars in its first week.

The 112-space car park at the village station of Manea, Cambridgeshire opened on Aug 7, despite only 2,500 people living in the village.

Aerial photos of the car park revealed that in the first three days of operation just one vehicle used it and two more parked during the rest of the week.

Councillors have suggested that the increase in working from home could have played a factor in the lack of vehicles, while also suggesting that its opening had not been properly advertised yet to locals.
