Social media users, and in particular TikTok, have become obsessed with berberine, extolling its benefits and comparing it to Ozempic, a weekly medical injection that lowers blood sugar and helps with weight loss as a side-effect.
Sales of berberine have rocketed globally in recent months. It is sold out in many health food stores in the US and the UK but can still be bought online. But what exactly is it, why are people talking about it all of a sudden and, most importantly, is it safe to use?
