In a scathing letter, Nadine Dorries, MP for Mid-Bedfordshire, has accused Rishi Sunak of putting her personal safety at risk by “whipping a public frenzy against her”
Nadine Dorries has at last resigned from her seat in the House of Commons – after revealing police visited her home last week over a safety threat.
The politician accused the Prime Minister of betraying Conservative principles and behaving irresponsibly. The MP for Mid-Bedfordshire announced that she would be leaving her seat with “immediate effect” in June but failed to do so until today.
In a letter to Rishi Sunak, Ms Dorries accused the Prime Minister of putting her personal safety at risk by “whipping a public frenzy against her”. The letter also reveals police had visited Ms Dorries’ home last week to warn her about a threat to her security.
Ms Dorries, 66, says she first informed Cabinet Secretary Simon Case of her intention to resign in July 2022. She added she has since been under sustained pressure from colleagues not to inflict a further damaging by-election on the party as it languishes in the polls.
