‘My mother-in-law vilified me for kissing my newborn baby

A new mum has shared details of a shocking request made by her mother-in-law following the birth of her six-week-old baby daughter – and people can’t believe it

The relationship between a woman and her mother-in-law can be a tricky one. Now a new mum has confessed she found herself completely stunned by the behaviour of her husband’s mother following the birth of her baby.

The woman in question revealed that she had a six-week-old daughter with her husband – the first grandchild on both sides of the family. The happy new parents were advised by their paediatrician to not allow anyone besides ourselves kiss the baby for the first 8-12 weeks minimum. The information was passed on to both of our families, who initially seemed accepting.

However, the feelings of goodwill didn’t last long. The new mum revealed that they recently paid a visit to her in-laws’ home. She had just finished breastfeeding the sleepy baby when she softly kissed the little girl on her head before settling her to nap on her chest.

“My mother-in-law noticed and immediately remarked on it in a super passive-aggressive manner: ‘Oh, I’m so glad that we’re able to kiss [baby] now! Did your paediatrician update the rules?'” she recalled on Reddit.
