‘I am 70 and I still live in a room,’ a refugee voice called out on stage.
It was during a performance with adult refugees and asylum seekers, and this person in particular was talking about their frustrations of being in shared accommodation.
She was sharing a bathroom and just had a tiny room for herself and her husband – they couldn’t even invite a friend or family member over.
As the director of the performance piece, I realised how significant it is to connect with the stories of those who are less visible to us. This work is incredibly important to me – not least because I’m an immigrant to the UK too.
