He is currently claiming Universal Credit to top up his £10.50 per hour wage and says he can't afford a two-bedroom flat anywhere else. He says that the flat offered to him by the developers carrying out the repairs is too expensive as the rent is £1,000 more per month than he currently pays. The former hotel manager lost his job during the pandemic and says he has to work fewer days to look after young son Faris. He told MyLondon: "In this situation, I will say, I can't move on from this flat, also is clearly mentioned in the contract as well, by L&Q. If they are trying to kick us out, they're also breaking the contract." He also questioned why the housing association are unable to move the residents into empty flats in the same block while repairs were made. Developers L&Q are reportedly planning to evict the block's residents in the New Year so that they can fix poorly installed cladding, windows and roofs, which were signed off in 2018. The tenants claim that for the past year they were told that they would be moved to other nearby properties while the work was carried out. However, they received a letter from the housing association in September telling them they would be kicked out before Christmas.
