A bride with multiple sclerosis has spoken of her joy at having her assistance dog at her side on her special day, and says she couldn’t have imagined the wedding going ahead without her
A bride says she knew she had to have her beloved assistance dog by her side as she made her way down the aisle, and wouldn’t have had it any other way. When Tracey Kesterton was preparing to tie the knot with her now-husband Martin Farrant at the beginning of the year, she felt her 11-year-old assistance dog, Martha, should have an important role to play.
The pair have “rarely” been apart since Tracey first brought Martha home nine years ago after the adorable pooch first graduated from ‘big school’. Tracey has multiple sclerosis (MS), a condition that can affect a person’s brain and spinal cord, resulting in potential symptoms such as difficulties with movement, vision problems, and fatigue.
By the time Martha came into her life, Tracey’s “world was getting more and more difficult”, but the pooch helped her to retain her independence.
Newly married Tracey, who said ‘I do’ at St Alban the Martyr Church in Northampton back in May, said: “Martha doesn’t know I’m disabled, she thinks it’s a game to pick up the incessant things I drop, fetches my shoes and clothes when needed, helps get the laundry to the washing machine, empties the washing machine, gets items off supermarket shelves for me, opens and closes doors, the list is endless! If it’s fun, or she gets ‘paid’ in food, she’s happy!”
