Musk ‘only playing lip service to free speech’ until Trump back

Elon Musk is “only playing lip service to free speech” because he has failed to restore Donald Trump to Twitter, a social media rival has argued. The world’s richest man bought the social media platform last month for $44 billion. But Jason Miller, founder of rival social media platform GETTR and a close ally of Mr Trump, is sceptical about his attempts to end partisan bias on Twitter. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Mr Miller, who is working on the Trump campaign and was a senior figure in 2016 and 2020, said he personally agrees with much of what Mr Musk is trying to achieve. He said: “I think his bigger picture goal of trying to reintroduce some aspects of free speech is more of a down the middle approach is good.”Anyone who supports free speech should support what Elon Musk is trying to do.”I also understand that he is trying to get rid of dead weight – a lot of partisan baggage that currently is in existence at Twitter.”I think a lot of them are so ideologically biased, I think it affects their job performance.” Elon Musk should ask Donald Trump to return to Twitter friends say (Image: GETTY)However, he warned: “It’s clear that some of that is lip service. They still haven’t reintroduced President Trump, for example.”Mr Miller also believes social media platforms like GETTR and Twitter should not be setting themselves up as fact checkers but allow people to debate politics without slurs. He said: “Any so-called fact checker has some sort of bias.”[On GETTR] your political opinion is never going to be censored or shadow banned or algorithmed out.”READ MORE: Trump to officially launch his 2024 White House bid in next 24 hours Jason Miller is the founder of GETTR and close ally of Donald Trump (Image: Sky News)Mr Miller’s comments come in the wake of Mr Musk’s purchase of Twitter which has seen him sack up to 3,700 employees in what many see as a purge of the company. While many have praised the Musk takeover for attempting to restore free speech on the platform, others fear it will make it harder to police fake content – especially ahead of the crucial midterm elections in the US.But critics of the previous set up at Twitter point to the fact that it banned Mr Trump after the January 6 riot in Washington in 2021.Nigel Farage is one high profile name to have joined Mr Miller’s GETTR platform.Mr Miller said: “Nigel is enjoying being on GETTR he broadcasts live a lot on the platform is doing well.”DON’T MISSTrump will not detract from midterms but will make ‘announcement’ soon [REVEAL]Tomorrow Joe Biden will be offcially a lame duck and spat out by party [INSIGHT]’The numbers favour a massive Republican victory’ [REACT] Nigel Farage is on GETTR (Image: GETTY)GETTR is set to run events in London later this month, including one for the England versus USA match in the World Cup on November 25.
