Mum’s fury as daughter is sent home from school for wearing Vivienne Westwood shoes

Several students were reprimanded on their first day of the new school year for wearing ‘unsuitable footwear’, resulting in parents being called to collect them

A mum has been left furious after her daughter was sent home from school for wearing her designer shoes.

Parents have slammed Grace College in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, for putting pupils in isolation until they could be picked up on the first day of the school year for wearing unsuitable footwear – including Nike branded walking boots and Vivienne Westwood pumps. The students lasted a matter of hours of the new school year on Tuesday (September 5), before they were sent packing by staff.

Among the kids asked to return home were a year 10 pupil, who was wearing black Nike walking boots, as well as year nine and year seven students who arrived in black Vivienne Westwood pumps. Melissa Pope said her 11-year old daughter was forced to spend the day in isolation until she could be picked up by her grandmother. The youngster is now reluctant to go back, according to Chronicle Live.

Mum-of-two Melissa said: “My daughter has had her first day at secondary school. She’s been sitting in a room not learning anything at all and not wanting to go back. They’ve said she can’t wear them for health and safety because the shoe doesn’t cover the top of the foot. I asked if I could get her a loafer and they said that still wasn’t acceptable, it had to be a brogue type of shoe.
