The operation on July 8 last year should have taken three hours but her fiance Jonathan Burt was given the devastating news it was taking longer than expected due to complications. He was then told she was in a critical condition before she passed away at 12.45pm due to internal bleeding, which caused multiple cardiac arrests. Emma's family were informed by the private hospital that the procedure was halted in order to address the bleeding - but instead they had continued to operate. The medical death certificate supplied by doctors in Turkey listed her cause of death as natural causes, citing cardiac arrest. But reaching her conclusion at Cheshire Coroner's Court in Warrington, senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish said: "Had the bleeding been stemmed at the time of discovery, Emma would have survived." She went on: 'There is evidence that Emma's stomach had undergone the procedure and had been stapled. "The treatment offered to Emma did not contain sufficient clotting factors and platelets to stem the bleed." The coroner disagreed with the death certificate supplied in Turkey and instead recorded the cause as: "Shock and haemorrhage due to a ruptured ligament due to a gastric sleeve operation." Paying tribute, her fiance described her as: 'One of those people you only needed to know for five minutes and she would be your friend.' Jonathan added: 'Everybody loved her.'
