Mum, 38, issues warning after becoming paralysed on one side after suffering stroke

Alli Bate, from Warrington, has issued a stark warning about ‘stereotypes’ after she suffered from a stroke at the age of 38 – she believes her symptoms were ‘masked’ by her ongoing migraines

A determined mum is learning to walk again after she suddenly woke up paralysed on one side of her body after suffering from a stroke.

Alli Bate, now 39, from Warrington, has warned “strokes can happen at any age and do not discriminate” after she experienced a haemorrhagic stroke, which is a life-threatening condition where blood from an artery begins bleeding into the brain.

The former counsellor and teacher said she was enjoying a meal with her mates when she began to experience a severe migraine. She left the dinner early and had hoped to “sleep it off” like she usually did when she noticed a headache coming on, but her condition worsened and she was rushed to hospital on August 7 last year.

“My partner Olivia called for an ambulance and we found out I was having a stroke. I didn’t have a clue what was going on as I was so out of it,” she recalled.
