Chelsea star Mason Mount has insisted he’s got the courage to take a penalty for England at the World Cup – despite missing in the shootout in the FA Cup final earlier in the year. The playmaker will be going to Qatar after being named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the tournament this winter. And he’s now spoken to Express Sport about the upcoming competition as the Three Lions look to go all the way.England and penalties just don’t mix.The Three Lions have won just two of their shootouts over the years, a success rate of 22 per cent, with last summer’s defeat to Italy in the European Championships still raw and fresh in the minds of many.Mount wasn’t on the pitch as England lost that final, having made way for Jack Grealish in the closing stages of normal time.He did, however, miss from 12 yards as Chelsea lost the FA Cup final to Liverpool on penalties earlier this year. But Mount, speaking to Express Sport, has insisted he’s ready to step up and take a spot-kick if required – while also claiming past demons aren’t a consideration.’Anytime I get offered to take a penalty I will always take one no matter what’s happened with the others,’ he said.Want the latest football news?
