Motorists held up in 200,000 roadworks because of faulty water pipes over three years

An average of 159 road repairs have been carried out every day since the start of 2020 because of leaks, figures reveal

Motorists have been held up by more than 200,000 roadworks caused by faulty water pipes over the last three years.

New figures show that since the start of 2020 an average of 159 road repairs have had to be carried out every day because of leaks.

The investigation by the Liberal Democrats has uncovered for the first time the scale of roadworks caused by badly-maintained pipes.

The figures come from an information request submitted by the party.
