Motel owner who helped homeless forced to give up home or face jail

A man says that he was selling pain pills to help his tenants – he owns an old motel that serves as a home to the homeless, but now the whole building is scheduled to be demolished

A motel owner was forced to take a plea deal and give up his property in order to avoid jail time – but he argues that the ‘crime’ he committed was helping the county’s unhoused population.

After a year-long investigation into Dilavar ‘David’ Dwivedi, the owner and manager of the Uptown Motel in Scottsville, he has agreed to forfeit ownership of the property. This has allowed the city to serve a 60-day notice to all of the tenants.

Almost all of Dwivedi’s tenants were homeless before he had them move into the property. He became the subject of a police investigation when it was discovered that Dwivedi was selling pain medication to tenants.

As part of this agreement, Dwivedi will avoid serving any jail time. Dwivedi openly admitted that he had been involved in the illicit sale of pain pills from the motel for the past year.
