More than a million tune out of Radio 2 after Ken Bruce’s exit

Number of listeners to several BBC programmes falls as independent stations target older audiences

More than a million listeners abandoned Radio 2’s mid-morning slot following the departure of Ken Bruce, figures have shown.

Bruce left his Radio 2 show in March for a new job on Greatest Hits Radio, ending a 40-year association with the BBC.

When he left, his show had 8.2 million listeners. The Telegraph understands that in the three months from April to June, the audience fell to 6.9 million.

Bruce’s replacement, Vernon Kay, took over in May. Prior to that, the slot was filled on a temporary basis by Gary Davies.
