Monkeypox ‘very contagious’ four days before symptoms appear, scientists warn

MONKEYPOX is ‘very contagious’ four days before symptoms appear, new research has shown.

Cases of the illness were first detected in the UK in May this year after a handful of infections were also detected in Europe.

Across the UK there have been a total of 3,552 cases confirmed since the outbreak started, with the spread slowing.

In the US there have been a total of 28,422 confirmed infections, with states such as California and New York racking up the majority.

Now, medics at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have revealed that the transmission of monkeypox before symptoms arise might be much more “substantial” than previously thought.
