Moises Caicedo joins Chelsea as Blues win British record transfer war with Liverpool

Chelsea have landed the signature of Moises Caicedo from Brighton for a British record £115million fee with the Reds seeing off rivals Liverpool in the race to land the Ecuador star

Chelsea have beaten Liverpool to the fractious signing of Moises Caicedo for a British record £115million fee.

The midfielder has moved to Stamford Bridge from Brighton after being on Chelsea’s radar for much of the summer. The Seagulls had been keen to keep hold of their man and rejected several bids from the Blues, before accepting Liverpool’s £110m offer late on Thursday.

It was then claimed that Caicedo would head up to Merseyside to finalise personal terms and complete his medical, but Chelsea refused to take no for an answer and continued their pursuit despite Brighton insisting a self-imposed deadline for the deal had passed. With assurances that he wanted to join them dating as far back as May, Chelsea insisted that they were still in the race for Caicedo as they fought to conclude the deal.

Liverpool refused to take their £110m offer off the table despite Chelsea’s claims, with the Reds also raising an eyebrows at Chelsea’s ability to afford such a fee and stay within Premier League financial constraints.
