Miriam Margolyes ‘relieved’ to land Doctor Who role ‘before I die’

Award-winning actress Miriam Margolyes has shared her relief at landing a role in Doctor Who. The Call the Midwife actress will join the cast for the 60th-anniversary specials that will air this November. Miriam is the voice behind the Meep, the iconic creature adapted from The Star Beast comic strip. When speaking about her new role Miriam said: ‘I’m relieved I got to work on Doctor Who before I died. “With sci-fi, you never know. Thank you for making an old woman very happy.’ Doctor Who: Miriam has landed a role in the BBC series (Image: BBC) Doctor Who returns in November 2023 with three special episodes with David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor to coincide with the 60 th anniversary. Ncuti Gatwa’s first episode as the Fifteenth Doctor will air over the festive period. Ever since the news that David would be making his comeback, Doctor Who bosses have been teasing behind-the-scenes snaps. In their most recent, they showed a snap of the Des star in action on set. In the photo, David appears to be wearing a navy waistcoat over a white shirt and is looking to the side. Standing in a room filled with artwork on the walls in what seems to be the first episode of the three specials. With a clapperboard in the frame, the account teased there are more behind-the-scenes images to come in the run-up to the episode airing. The caption read: “Welcome to #WhoSpy! I’ll be your very own spy on set during the filming of #DoctorWho, keep your eyes peeled for more updates.” Speaking about his return on This Morning, David said: ‘It was like being handed a very lovely present. It was joyous. ‘It was great fun. It was a very happy joyous time on set 15 years ago, and returning to that could’ve been – might’ve felt awkward, it might have felt difficult. I might not have been able to run as fast! ‘We had a lovely time. Russell T Davies is back running the show, it felt like we’d never been away… That’s all you’re getting!” Doctor Who will return in November to BBC One.
