The Commons Public Accounts Committee warned in a new report the UK’s main animal disease facility has been left to ‘deterioriate to an alarming extent’ and told ministers to ‘get a grip’
Ministers are not prioritising the “significant threat” from animal diseases and must “get a grip”, cross-party MPs warn today.
The Commons Public Accounts Committee says the risk of such diseases to health, trade, farming and society is real and the consequences can be devastating.
They claim the UK’s main animal disease facility near Weybridge in Surrey has been left to “deterioriate to an alarming extent”.
The Committee said the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has “comprehensivley failed in its historical management” of the site, with “over 1,000 single points of failure that would cause major disruption” to operations.
