Arsenal new boy Jurrien Timber showed off his impressive versatility in the 5-3 win over Barcelona on Wednesday night after he was asked to play as a left-back by Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta sprung a surprise by deploying Jurrien Timber as a left-back in Arsenal’s enthralling 5-3 win over Barcelona in the United States.
The Gunners, who are ramping up their pre-season preparations ahead of the new Premier League campaign, came out on top in an entertaining exhibition match against the Spanish champions. Goals from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Fabio Vieira and a brace from Leandro Trossard were enough to seal victory against Xavi Hernandez’ side.
Although Declan Rice missed out, Havertz and Timber – Arsenal’s two other summer captures – played the majority of the match. More than a few eyebrows were raised, though, when the latter was handed an unexpected role by Arteta.
The Dutch defender, who is capable of playing as a centre-back and at right-back, was utilised on the opposite flank against Barcelona. And the 22-year-old earned rave reviews from fans on social media for his performance on the left in Los Angeles.
