Mikel Arteta feels immediate impact of revamped rules after Arsenal antics vs Man City

Mikel Arteta was leading his Arsenal side in the Community Shield but the Spaniard was booked early into the game after falling foul of a new FA directive against dissent towards referees

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has immediately fallen foul of new rules aimed at stamping dissent out of professional football.

Arteta was leading his Arsenal side as they took on Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday. It was the first time new rules had been implemented, with referees to take a harsh line against managers demanding yellow and red cards.

As the game passed the 17th minute mark, Arteta saw new Gunners signing Kai Havertz brought down by City midfielder Rodri. Referee Stuart Attwell awarded a free-kick, but Arteta immediately sprinted to fourth official John Brooks waving an imaginary card.

Attwell was brought over to the technical area and pulled out a yellow card which he showed to Arteta. The booking came after the FA implemented new rules to stamp out dissent from managers.
