The art collection of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen sold for over $1.6billion at auction, making it the most valuable in history.
Allen’s massive collection of 155 pieces was auctioned at Christie’s Auction House over the course of two nights in New York City.
‘The room tonight was extremely special, and we were joined by colleagues from around the world, demonstrating the global demand of this once-in-a-lifetime collection,’ said Johanna Flaum, Christie’s vice chair for 20th and 21st century art.
The collection included works by Paul Cezanne, Georges Seurat, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, and Gustav Klimt.
