Miami’s Mayor Francis Suarez plans to capitalise on the arrival of football superstar Lionel Messi to the MLS after he signed for Inter Miami CF on a free transfer
The Mayor of Miami plans to raffle off tickets to Lionel Messi’s first game for Inter Miami CF.
The football icon was unveiled at the club’s DRV PNK Stadium in front of a packed crowd after signing on a free transfer following two years at French champions PSG. The World Cup winner is expected to make his debut on Friday in the inaugural Leagues Cup debut against Cruz Azul, and Miami’s Mayor Francis Suarez is making the most of it.
The 45-year-old needs enough donations for his presidential campaign in order to participate in August’s first Republican primary debate. Therefore, he hopes the lure of wanting to see Messi in action will persuade the public to boost his campaign.
During the Turning Point Action Conference one month into his campaign, Suarez said: “If anyone wants to see Lionel Messi’s first game, just give a $1 to Venmo, @ Suarez2024, we’re giving away two tickets to see him on the front row.” In a graphic promoting the raffle, the fine print stated that the draw would take place on July 20.
