An Eton-educated keyboardist is among the members of the first jazz band to win the prestigious Mercury Prize.
Joe Armon-Jones is one of five who make up Ezra Collective, a British band who fuse elements of afrobeat, calypso, reggae, hip-hop, soul and jazz in their music.
The £25,000 prize, which the group won for their album Where I’m Meant To Be, celebrates the best British or Irish album of the last year, and has never been awarded to a jazz band in the past.
Mr Armon-Jones, the group’s keyboardist, attended the famous British all-boys public school before graduating from Trinity Laban with a music degree and becoming one of the founding members of Ezra Collective.
