Meghan Markle’s memoir would be a “money spinner” but an expert has warned it also has the potential to inflict irreparable damage to her career and reputation. The Duchess of Sussex is keeping the world waiting for her next career move, with the former actress and husband Prince Harry seemingly on different professional paths after leaving the British Royal Family in 2020. She has been tipped by a leading royal author to write her own memoirs. Harry’s own memoir became the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time, shifting 1.43million copies during its first day on sale in the US, Canada, and UK. Mark Boardman, an entertainment expert with more than 20 years of industry experience, believes Meghan could make “tens of millions of dollars from her memoirs – even before they are actually released. He told Daily Express US : “Given her status as a former member of the British Royal Family and her celebrity status, there is undoubtedly significant interest in her personal story though perhaps less so than Harry on a global scale. Meghan Markle has been tipped to write and release her own memoir (Image: GETTY) “Such a memoir however still has the potential to be a substantial money-spinner, both in terms of book sales and potential media deals. ” Meghan Markle has the potential to make a substantial amount of money from her memoirs, ranging from several million dollars for the advance alone to tens of millions or more when accounting for royalties, international rights, and related opportunities.” “Being a significant public profile like Meghan Markle can secure substantial advance payments from publishers. “Advances for high-profile memoirs can range from several million dollars to even tens of millions, depending on the bidding war among publishers although any deal will have terms attached to it that will ensure maximum sales and minimize family in-fighting and potential lawsuits.” Meghan Markle could follow Prince Harry by releasing her own memoir (Image: GETTY) But Mr Boardman said Meghan would also need to “walk a fine line” and be mindful of the “potential risks involved” with writing and releasing her own memoirs. He warned any more “highly critical or contentious content” would not only deepen her rift with the Royal Family and polarize opinion, it could also inflict so much damage on her career and reputation that would be impossible to come back from. The expert continued: “Meghan’s memoirs could stir controversy and reignite debates surrounding her relationship with the Royal Family, especially if she chooses to reveal previously undisclosed details. “Any further revelations or ‘bombshells’ about her time as a royal could impact her career and reputation in various ways with an almost impossible task to make a further comeback. Prince Harry’s memoir Spare was a huge best-seller when it was released last January (Image: GETTY) “The impact largely depends on the nature of the disclosures. Positive revelations about her experiences and her charity work could enhance her reputation and strengthen her brand as a humanitarian. “On the other hand, if her memoirs contain highly critical or contentious content, it could strain her relationship with the Royal Family further and polarize public opinion. “It’s a fine line to walk, and Meghan would need to carefully consider the potential consequences.” Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Daily Express US any memoirs from Meghan would generate “huge sales” but warned it could be “very bad news for the British Royal Family” and any revelations would ensure “the rift remains or is widened”. Meghan Markle – a career timeline (Image: EXPRESS) He said: “The Sussexes deal with Random House was reported to be a four-book deal. However, if all they have to offer is material that involves attacks on the Royal Family, as this undoubtedly would, there is a limit to their appeal. “In the short term, it would have huge financial benefits but, one has to ask, at what cost?” Follow our social media accounts here on facebook.com/ExpressUSNews and @expressusnews
