Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s shock snub from the Emmy Awards nominations “raises questions about their standing and what the future holds”, an industry expert has warned. ‘Harry and Meghan’ – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s six-part documentary series on Netflix that is part of the huge $100million deal with the couple – premiered last December. It was a resounding success, smashing several viewership records for the online streaming giant. The success was so great it had been widely expected by many industry to be nominated for an Emmy Award. But the shock omission from the Emmy Awards nominations has left many stunned, with one industry expert warning the “significant setback” will lead many to ask where Harry and Meghan go from here with their media careers. Mark Boardman, a showbiz writer and media commentator who is also Entertainment Editor at MarkMeets, told Daily Express US: “It was definitely an upset for the couple to be overlooked. Meghan and Harry’s documentary series was not nominated for an Emmy Award (Image: GETTY) “The lack of an Emmy nomination for the Harry and Meghan docuseries can undoubtedly be seen as a significant setback for the power couple in the media industry. “With the criticism they have recently faced over their media deals, namely Spotify, this latest snub adds to the disappointment and raises questions about their standing and what the future holds. “The couple may feel that the stress and invasion they endured in the making of the series did not yield the desired recognition they are searching for after a difficult year.” He added: “An Emmy nomination would have been a powerful validation of their work and a way to prove that their efforts and sacrifices were worthwhile. “It would have provided a boost of confidence and showcased their ability to produce compelling content that resonates with audiences. Meghan and Harry’s series not being nominated for an Emmy has shocked one industry expert (Image: GETTY) “The absence of this nomination leaves them without the tangible evidence of their success and may invite further scrutiny from critics.” But the industry expert believes there is light at the end of the tunnel for Harry and Meghan, cautioning against the Emmys snub being seen as the “definitive measure of their standing with Netflix or the industry as a whole”. He said: “Their partnership with Netflix extends beyond a single project; it represents a long-term commitment to producing content that aligns with their values and goals. “While an Emmy nomination would have been a remarkable achievement, their success and impact should not be solely reliant on awards recognition.” Harry and Meghan starred in their own six-part documentary series (Image: GETTY) Boardman said it is now “crucial” for the couple to “emphasize the value they bring to the industry through their creative vision, storytelling abilities, and the ability to spark meaningful conversations”. He urged them not to dwell on the disappointment of the awards snub and instead “redirect their energy towards creating content that resonates with audiences and contributes to positive change”. The expert concluded: “In order to strengthen their position in the media landscape, both individually and as a couple, Harry and Meghan need to redefine themselves and explore new avenues. “Meghan’s future in television and film offers opportunities for her to establish herself as a prominent figure in the industry. He added: “This moment of disappointment can serve as a valuable opportunity for reflection and growth. Harry and Meghan can take the time to reassess their creative approach, seek feedback, and identify areas for improvement and innovation in their future projects. “By learning from this experience and adapting their strategies, they can demonstrate their resilience and commitment to delivering compelling content that captures the attention of viewers worldwide.” Meghan Markle – a career timeline (Image: EXPRESS) Despite the disappointment of the Emmys snub, Harry and Meghan did receive a boost after their Netflix series was nominated by the Hollywood Critics Awards in the Best Streaming Nonfiction category. Netflix has also thrown its full support behind its partnership with the couple. A spokesperson told Entertainment Tonight: “The bond with Archewell Productions is one we deeply value. Harry and Meghan launched as Netflix ‘s most spectacular documentary debut to date. “Our exciting journey with them isn’t ending anytime soon.
