Rapper Megan Thee Stallion shared important message regarding violence against Black women during Tory Lanez’s sentencing hearing Tuesday after the rapper was shot in 2020
Megan Thee Stallion shared a powerful message during a statement read in Tory Lanez’s sentencing hearing Tuesday after the rapper was given 10 years in prison for shooting her in 2020.
Megan could not stand to be in the same room as Lanez during the hearing, but had her statement read aloud in court. It said: “He not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma. This is a statement for all survivors that their lives matter and there is zero tolerance for the torture that accompanies violence.”
Megan Thee Stallion, legally known as Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, felt that she needed to express her side of the traumatic experience as the shooting incident started a deeper discussion about violence against Black women. Megan had previously denied any romantic connection to Tory before the trail, but later told the jury she lied because she was disgusted she “shared her body with someone who would shoot her.”
