The life-changing prize was the third largest in US lottery history and the largest-ever Mega Millions jackpot after the winning ticket was purchased at a Publix store in Neptune Beach, Florida
The winner of the historic Mega Millions $1.58billion jackpot faces losing half of their staggering prize due to a simple rule.
The life-changing prize – roughly equvivalent to £124billion in UK money – was the third largest in US lottery history and the largest-ever Mega Millions jackpot after the winning ticket was purchased at a Publix store in Neptune Beach, Florida, according to lottery officials.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions is one in 302.6million, and the winning numbers were: 13, 19, 20, 32, 33, and the yellow megaplier ball 14.
Previously, there had been 31 draws before the Mega Millions was eventually won on Tuesday night by a lucky winner, who has not yet been named. However, they face losing half of their jackpot as they have two options when claiming their prize.
