Mauricio Pochettino’s training ground demand to Chelsea players as new boss makes impact

New Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has been hard at work in a bid to stamp his authority on a playing squad that massively underachieved in the Premier League last year

Mauricio Pochettino has only been at Chelsea for a matter of weeks, but the Blues’ new head coach has already made an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge.

The highly-rated Argentine coach, 51, was targeted by the Blues hierarchy in the wake of the club’s disastrous 2022/23 campaign. Chelsea finished in the bottom half of the Premier League with just 44 points after sacking both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter: their lowest tally since the current inception of the topflight began back in 1992/93.

A number of players failed to live up to expectations, including several high-profile new signings who were acquired following Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s acquisition of the club last May.

Pochettino, though, has already transformed the mood at Stamford Bridge. According to a new report from The Athletic, the arrival of the former Tottenham chief has led to a significant improvement in the standards of training and gym work.
