Ukraine star Mykhailo Mudryk had endured a difficult few months following a big-money move to Chelsea in January but has now opened his account for the London club
Mauricio Pochettino expressed his relief as Mykhailo Mudryk finally ended his Chelsea drought.
Mudryk scored his first goal for Chelsea since his £89m move to Stamford Bridge last summer as the Blues also ended a run of 303 minutes without a goal in the Premier League. Pochettino was delighted for Mudryk and insisted there is still a long way to go for him as he claimed the Ukraine winger has struggled to settle because of confidence and he arrived with so many young players in the squad.
Chelsea boss Pochettino, who revealed Mudryk went off at half time with a minor thigh strain, said: “It’s about maturity, adaptation and we need to understand young people as they need time to settle. It’s a massive change to come here and when you arrive in a team it’s not easy to settle because, being honest, too many young players arrive to a team that is not solid. It’s not the cherry of the cake. They need to add something to the team to add something important. It is to trust these guys, these young talented players.”
It was Chelsea’s first win since August and Pochettino is hoping that it could be a turning point for his new-look team. Pochettino added: “It’s important for us to build our confidence and trust in ourselves. The performance was very good, I’m so happy for the players and in the end we got what we deserved.”
