Matthew Perry opens up about hiding addiction struggles while filming Friends

Matthew Perry has reflected on ‘hiding’ his addiction issues and trying to keep it a secret at the height of his fame.

The actor played Chandler Bing for the entire length of Friends, which ran for a decade between 1994 – 2004.

He appeared alongside Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox and Matt LeBlanc on the hugely popular sitcom, and a strong bond was built between the stars during that time.

However, the 53-year-old was struggling with alcohol and painkiller addiction behind the scenes, and previously explained that he was taking 55 Vicodin at one point.

During a stint on Good Morning America to promote his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, he said that it was cathartic to put pen to paper, but he found himself ‘disassociating’ from his own life story.
