Matt Hancock defends Covid lockdown breach as he tells I’m a Celebrity campmate ‘I fell in love’

Former health secretary says he ‘messed up and fessed up’ as questions continue over his appearance on TV show

Matt Hancock has defended his lockdown-breaking behaviour to his “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here” campmates by saying he “fell in love”.

The MP for West Suffolk was forced to resign as health secretary in June 2021 after footage showed him kissing his aide, Gina Coladangelo, in his ministerial office in breach of Covid regulations. Mr Hancock later left his wife for her.

In Thursday night’s episode, Mr Hancock was confronted over his behaviour by celebrities in the Australian jungle.

Babatunde Aleshe, a comedian, told him he had “messed up” in Thursday evening’s episode of the programme, with Mr Hancock replying: “I messed up and fessed up.”
