Matheus Nunes given brutal reception seconds into Man City clash despite Wolves apology

Mateus Nunes was making his first return to Molineux following his acrimonious transfer from Wolves to Manchester City was completed on the final day of the window

Wolves fans showed they haven’t forgiven Matheus Nunes as he returned to the club he left earlier this summer.

Signed in the summer of 2022, the Portugal international spent one season in the Black Country, before agitating for a move in the recent window. Nunes went on strike to force a move to Manchester City when their interest emerged in August.

He subsequently got his wish, with Wolves banking £53million in the process. But the nature of his departure has left a bitter taste in the mouth, evidenced at Molineux on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola started the midfielder for their trip to the Black Country and he was given an extremely hostile reception by the fans who used to support him. His name was loudly booed before kick-off, before he was greeted with some X-rated chants and a slightly more friendly one suggesting “his teeth were offside”.
