Manchester United have announced that Mason Mount has suffered a hamstring injury and further reports say the former Chelsea midfielder could miss eight fixtures
Mason Mount’s six-week injury lay-off could save Scott McTominay’s Manchester United career – and force the Red Devils to sign Sofyan Amrabat.
United confirmed on Wednesday that Mount would miss their upcoming Premier League clashes with Nottingham Forest and Arsenal prior to the international break, before it was reported that he could be out until October. A hamstring issue has stunted the former Chelsea midfielder’s start to life at Old Trafford and is expected to alter manager Erik ten Hag’s transfer plans.
With Mount, 24, at risk of missing eight fixtures thanks to his injury, Ten Hag will have slim pickings in midfield after selling Fred to Fenerbahce earlier this month. Following a bid from West Ham and interest from Newcastle, McTominay looked set to follow Fred out of the exit door but the Scotland international’s chances of remaining with the Red Devils have now received a boost.
In turn, United could also step up their pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who they’ve been linked with throughout August alongside Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch. 27-year-old Amrabat, rated at £25million and in the final year of his contract, is currently training alone after the Italian side told him to decide his future by Friday, one week before the transfer window closes.
