Mary Earps makes Lionesses claim ahead of World Cup knockout last 16 clash with Nigeria

The England goalkeeper is yet to concede from open play at the tournament and believes the European Champions are starting to hit form at the right time – ahead of a last 16 showdown with Nigeria

“We don’t fear anyone” is the message from England stopper Mary Earps as the World Cup reaches the knockout stage.

The Lionesses are now three games away from the final after safely navigating Group D with maximum points. Sarina Wiegman’s side next face Nigeria in Brisbane in the last 16, and go into the tie boasting one of the best defensive records in the competition.

Earps has only conceded once in the tournament so far, a penalty in last Tuesday’s 6-1 win over China following a questionable handball by Lucy Bronze. But Nigeria could provide their toughest test so far, with a talented attack featuring Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala having already taken apart Australia on home soil.

But Earps believes the European Champions have found their rhythm and that they are now ready to take on the rest of the world.
