A fan of Martin Lewis has explained how his mum claimed £37,000 following a rule change for bereavement support.

As of February this year, cohabiting parents with dependent children can apply for Bereavement Support Payment or Widowed Parent’s Allowance following the death of their partner.

Previously, this support was only available to eligible bereaved parents who were married or in a civil partnership.

Writing in to MoneySavingExpert.com, a reader known only as Jamie said his mum received a payment of £37,000 after becoming aware of the rule change.
