Martin Brundle has asked for a role in Brad Pitt’s new Formula One movie ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix. The Sky Sports pundit made the request when asked which actor could play him in the new film. Pitt is on-site at Silverstone as production on the new movie begins this weekend. A pit garage has even been allocated to the crew with a modified F2 car set to drive around the track in between sessions to take shots for the film. Brundle made the comment live on Sky after Simon Lazenby asked: ‘Who’s playing you MB?” The 64-year-old former McLaren driver replied: ‘I’m hoping I am to be honest.’ Lazenby added: ‘We are all hoping.’ Brundle then highlighted his admiration for the project as a way to increase interest in the sport. The next tail in the Formula One story I think is going to be this movie and Vegas in terms of spreading the gospel of our wonderful sport. ‘What has impressed me massively is how authentic they want it to be in the background. I’m sure there will be a Hollywood storyline but my goodness they want it to look real.’ Lazenby then tried to encourage the rest of the pundits to hide in the background of shots in a bid to make the film. He joked: ‘I’m going to practice my photobombing, I think we all should just hang out in the back of their shots all the time.’ Pitt will star as Sonny Hayes, a retired F1 star who comes back to compete alongside an up-and-coming star. The movie is being directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski with Lewis Hamilton also involved in the project. The seven-time champion revealed his excitement for the film on Thursday. Hamilton explained: ‘Joe is an incredible director and you already saw what he’s done with fighter jets, what he did with Maverick. “So if you just think about what he’s done with that in terms of the dogfights you saw on those jets, was pretty epic. And bringing that in, that technology and that viewpoint into our world, I think it’s going to be amazing.” Charles Leclerc also backed the project and admitted the movie would not be a distraction for the real drivers over the weekend. He explained: ‘In the end, one more camera or one less camera, I don’t think we realise it that much. I think it’s amazing for the sport, though, I think it’s great. ‘It gives us really big visibility, big reach to people that might not know or might not be interested so much into Formula One.’
