Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan and David Willey in three-way contest to replace Wood while Phil Salt is likely to come in for Malan
Mark Wood faces a race against time be fit for England’s T20 World Cup semi-final clash against India in Adelaide tomorrow, while Dawid Malan looks unlikely to be fit, with Phil Salt poised to replace him.
In training on Wednesday at the Adelaide Oval, Wood only bowled about three overs – and not at full tilt – as he grapples with stiffness in his hip. The England camp rate him at 50-50 to play.
Malan, who suffered a groin injury during the game against Sri Lanka last Saturday, only netted for a few minutes with one pad on, is viewed as considerably less likely to play. But England will only make a final call on both players on Thursday, the day of the semi-final.
“We will give Dawid and Mark Wood as long as possible and as always 15 guys are preparing to play so everyone is ready to as required,” skipper Jos Buttler said. “You do need to be in a position to know you can perform at your best so we trust the medical team and Mark and Dawid to be honest and tell us where they are at as well.
