Mark Wood admits ‘worries’ over Pakistan tour after attack on Imran Khan

Mark Wood admitted “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried” by news of the attempted assassination of Imran Khan, the former Pakistan prime minister and cricket captain, weeks before England’s three-Test tour to the country.

Imran, who was removed as prime minister in April, was several days into a protest procession bound for Islamabad, the capital, when he was shot at and wounded in Wazirabad, in the east of the country, on Thursday.

Wood, the fast bowler, is one of 15 players named in the England squad for a first Test tour to Pakistan since 2005. They are due in Islamabad on November 26, before playing the first Test in neighbouring Rawalpindi, starting on December 1. They will then move on to Multan
