Lord’s may be the “Home of Cricket” and MCC the guardians of the laws of cricket but Mark Nicholas, the new president of the club, feels it is in danger of losing its relevance within the game and wants to use his year-long tenure to reassert MCC’s influence globally.
Nicholas, 65, took over from Stephen Fry as MCC president on Sunday. It is an honorary post, mostly ambassadorial in nature but with the opportunity to put his weight behind the things he feels passionate about.
It is not an easy time for Nicholas to be taking over. MCC have been in the spotlight in the past 12 months after an incident in the Lord’s pavilion during the Ashes Test when Usman Khawaja and David Warner
