Man’s right to stay in UK rejected due to links to countries he’s never visited

A Nigerian national who has been in the UK for decades had his visa rejected due to links to Lebanon and India – countries he has never step foot in

A Nigerian man has had his right to stay in the UK rejected due to links to countries he’s never even visited.

The 57-year-old has lived in the UK for decades and has two siblings living in Scotland and Essex. Despite his deep ties to the country, his latest leave to remain application, submitted in July 2022, took a year to be rejected by the Home Office on the basis he would have no problem returning to Lebanon or India.

This was despite the fact that the unnamed gentleman has absolutely no links to either country. The Independent reported on the shocking case, and revealed that, alongside the refusal, the letter detailed the immigration history of an entirely different person.

The outlet reported that the Home Office claimed in the letter the man would “have retained knowledge of the life, language and culture of Lebanon and would not face significant obstacles to re-integrate back into life in [sic] there”. The major government department also claimed there was no reason he wouldn’t “enjoy” his life in India.
