Manchester United tell Mary Earps she will not be sold despite Arsenal interest

Contract discussions between the goalkeeper and Manchester United are understood to have been taking place, on and off, for around a year

Manchester United have told Mary Earps they are not willing to sell her and the club fully expect her to remain with them beyond Thursday’s Women’s Super League transfer deadline.

The England goalkeeper has been the subject of significant transfer speculation after it emerged that Arsenal had submitted a bid to sign the Lionesses No 1 this summer, which was flatly rejected, with under a year left on Earps’s contract.

According to Telegraph Sport sources, club staff and Earps discussed her future over the weekend and told her they do not have any desire to sell her and especially not to a rival club. United are still aiming to agree a new contract for Earps, whose existing deal expires next June.

The club’s stance throughout this summer has been that they want her to stay, that she is key to their plans, and they have no intention of selling the Best Fifa Goalkeeper of the Year award winner.
