Jorge Garay from Kent has been jailed for life with a minimum of 17 years after being found guilty of murdering partner and mum-of-one Karla Godoy and burying her in Lima, Peru
A man has been jailed for life for murdering and burying his partner while on holiday in Peru. Jorge Garay murdered 37-year-old Karla Godoy while visiting the country’s capital, Lima, last year after the couple ventured out there in September.Â
Evil Garay killed Ms Godoy before wrapping her in tarpaulin and attempting to bury her in a makeshift grave on land owned by his family. The 46-year-old was told he would serve a minimum of 17 years behind bars on Friday after a jury at Maidstone Crown court found him guilty of murder earlier this month.
Garay and Ms Godoy travelled to Peru on September 15 last year, with her family who live in Honduras and Spain saying they lost contact with her after the 23rd, when she said she would be travelling to Spain the following day. However, the mum-of-one never arrived.
Ms Godoy’s concerned family then contacted authorities in Spain and Peru, with investigations leading them to pass the report onto Kent Police. Garay travelled back to the UK on his own, telling his landlord she had gone onto Spain and claiming he had been robbed of his money and ID during his stay.
