Man Utd in ‘significant coup’ as they snap up Arsenal stalwart Gary O’Driscoll

Manchester United have reportedly snapped up Arsenal doctor Gary O’Driscoll to put an end to his 14-year career in north London. The recruitment of the highly-regarded medic is said to be a significant coup for the Red Devils, who haven’t won the Premier League title for a decade. United enjoyed an upturn in fortunes under Erik ten Hag last season and secured their return to the Champions League after finishing third in the Premier League table. The Red Devils, who were put up for sale by their Glazer family owners last November and are currently at the centre of a bidding war between Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have already brought in midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea this summer. And Ten Hag is clearly keen to put together a top team of experts to support his players behind the scenes at Old Trafford after prising the Gunners’ head of medical services away from the Emirates Stadium. The 52-year-old could have joined Liverpool in 2020 and has previously turned down opportunities to leave Arsenal. But the chance to move to Old Trafford proved too good to turn down and will allow the medic to move closer to his family in the north west. United lost their previous head of medical Steve McNally last December and replaced him with ex-Liverpool doctor Jim Moxon on a temporary basis. And Moxon could now stay at Old Trafford under O’Driscoll, whose time at Arsenal coincided with the club winning four FA Cups. O’Driscoll is regarded among the best operators in his industry and his move to the Red Devils comes after an in-depth process that saw United use recruitment experts to search far and wide to pinpoint several top-notch options. He was said to be the stand-out candidate due to his experience, professional credentials, character and personality. The Red Devils were serial winners under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson and landed two Champions Leagues, 13 Premier League titles and the Club World Cup as well as five FA Cups and four League Cups under the Scot. But they have struggled for any sort of consistency since Ferguson retired in 2013 and have never mounted a serious Premier League title challenge in the decade since.
