The former Manchester United goalkeeper was brutally honest as he reviewed the Red Devils’ 3-1 defeat away at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon and reserved some criticism for Andre Onana
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel admitted he had “no words” on the manner in which his former side lost 3-1 away at Arsenal on Sunday.
The Red Devils actually struck the first blow, with Marcus Rashford netting yet another goal against the Gunners to put Erik ten Hag’s men in front. However, that lead lasted all of two minutes before Arsenal responded in emphatic fashion, as club captain Martin Odegaard fired a composed left-footed strike into the bottom corner to level the score.
It remained 1-1 for some time, though United thought they had won it when Alejandro Garnacho was put clean through on goal before slotting his effort beyond the onrushing Aaron Ramsdale. Much to the relief of the Emirates faithful, VAR intervened and chalked off the Argentine’s goal.
Goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus in second-half stoppage time meant United made the trip back to Manchester with nothing to show for their efforts, but club icon Schmeichel appeared to have very little sympathy for them. The ex-Denmark ace did not hold back in his assessment of Arsenal’s second goal from £105million man Rice.
