'This reflected a change in the way that Uefa adjusted for COVID-19 losses during the 2022 reporting period, which allowed us to recognise only €15m of the €281m of revenues lost due to the pandemic within the FFP calculation. 'Post pandemic, the clubs' revenues have recovered strongly and are forecast to reach a record level in the current financial year. 'The club continues to support the enforcement of rules to promote financial fair play and sustainability across domestic and European football .' The Red Devils believe they have been tied up in red tape which proved almost impossible to unravel. The club have told UEFA that they were unable to adjust for the loss in their break-even calculations for 2022 due to a change in UEFA's own rules of how Covid financial issues were handled. United are angry that no leeway was given over what was a 'unqiue set of circumstances'. The fine does not impact what the club are able to spend this summer which has been restricted to £120million becaue of FFP rules. United were not the only club to be fined for the deficits as Turkish club Konyaspor and Cypriot outfit Apoel were also handed £85k fines. LaLiga giants Barcelona were also fined £430k for " wrongly reporting, in the financial year 2022, profits on disposal of intangible assets (other than player transfers) which are not a relevant income under the regulations."
