United however maintain the decision on Greenwood's return will instead be made by chief executive Richard Arnold, once the investigation has been completed and facts have been established, although there may now be no resolution until September. It comes after several members of United's women's team were targeted online, including England stars Ella Toone and Mary Earps, with fans petitioning for them to give the green light for Greenwood to return. There were also further protests against the Glazers ownership as the takeover saga rumbles on. Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have been the two frontrunners for some time, but negotiations remain ongoing ahead of the new season. There is now a fear among United fans that the Glazers will not sell up and instead bring in investment for a minority stake.
