Reports in Spain suggest the La Liga giants’ attempts to capture the midfielder could be complicated due to Brexit red tape, handing an advantage to the Premier League trio.Bellingham has been in sensational form so far this season, scoring nine goals in 19 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit. He became one of the youngest captains in Europe’s top five leagues after being handed the responsibility by head coach Edin Terzic.Despite enjoying life in Germany, it appears likely that Bellingham will leave the club in the summer of 2023, with Dortmund ready to demand a fee in excess of £120million for the teenager. Chelsea and Liverpool are expected to rival any attempt from Madrid to recruit Bellingham, with the Champions League winners already ‘in contact’ with his representatives, according to Spanish outlet AS.The report adds that Bellingham, who left Championship outfit Birmingham to join Dortmund at the age of 17 in a £25m deal in January 2020, is ‘torn’ between trying his hand in the Premier League and heading to Spain to continue his rise to becoming one of the world’s best midfielders.READ MORE: Guardiola sends Bellingham message amid transfer interest Jude Bellingham: The Borussia Dortmund playmaker has scored nine goals (Image: Getty Images)But one aspect that could scupper the deal is that Carlo Ancelotti’s side face registering Bellingham as a foreign player due to his ‘non-EU’ status. The United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union means that English players must apply for work permits for EU nations and the same is true for Bellingham.Madrid have freed up three spots in their squad for non-EU players after Rodrygo and Eder Militao received dual nationality. The Brazilian duo have followed Vinicius Junior in taking Spanish citizenship after being granted the status, which will significantly boost Madrid’s plans to recruit foreign players. It is an issue that affected potential moves for Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus earlier this summer, with the attackers joining Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.DON’T MISSChelsea can build unstoppable new midfield but it may cost BoehlyLiverpool and Chelsea have weeks to win Bellingham transfer battleMan City tipped to ‘spite Liverpool’ by moving for Bellingham
