Man Utd boss Ten Hag sends Maguire cruel message on future before Palace clash

Erik ten Hag has made four changes to the Manchester United side that thumped Crystal Palace 3-0 in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup third round. Harry Maguire is one of the players to lose his place for the second clash with Palace at Old Trafford in five days despite his strong outing in midweek. Maguire shone alongside Raphael Varane in the heart of Ten Hag’s defence as United comfortably started their Carabao Cup defence. It will have come as a big boost for the 30-year-old after deciding to fight for his place in the summer transfer window, rejecting a £30million transfer to West Ham United. However, Ten Hag has issued Maguire a cruel reality check over his hopes of a future at United, dropping him to the bench for Saturday’s Palace rematch. Victor Lindelof replaces the former Red Devils captain alongside Varane at centre-back, with Andre Onana between the sticks. Diogo Dalot and Sofyan Amrabat start as Ten Hag’s full-backs for a second successive game, and Casemiro and Mason Mount retain their spots in midfield. Bruno Fernandes is the second change, replacing Hannibal Mejbri alongside Mount, while Facundo Pellistri keeps his place at right wing. Harry Maguire has dropped to the Man Utd bench.
