Man Utd backed for mega-money double England raid as cold water poured on Onana

Manchester United have been backed to end their interest in Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana and instead turn their attention to Everton stopper Jordan Pickford as he and one of his England team-mates both could join Mason Mount at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have completed the £60million signing of Mount from Chelsea and are now eyeing a David De Gea replacement. The Spanish goalkeeper confirmed that he would be leaving United on a free transfer through a social media post on Saturday, which only further intensified speculation that would take Onana to the club. United and Inter have been in negotiations as the Italian club look to receive over £42m for Erik ten Hag’s former Ajax goalkeeper, as the two parties are expected to reach a compromise in negotiations. However, Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler believes that Pickford could still be considered by the United chiefs. ‘I see they’ve been strongly linked with Inter’s Andre Onana, and that makes sense because his distribution is sensational, and he played for Ten Hag at Ajax. But don’t rule out Jordan Pickford,’ Fowler told The Mirror. ‌’I know he only signed a new contract last February, but to me that makes it more rather than less likely he’ll move this summer. I can almost guarantee, he had a release clause inserted in that contract. Jordan Pickford has been tipped with a move to Manchester United. He’s handy on the ball too. United will have sniffed around to test how Everton are going to handle their ongoing profit and sustainability issues, so they’ll be absolutely on top of their keeper situation, no doubt, whether it’s Onana or Pickford.’ Fowler also insisted that a goalkeeper will not take the remainder of United’s summer transfer budget, as a striker will also follow. Atalanta starlet Rasmus Hojlund is firmly on United’s radar, but Fowler believes that Old Trafford would be the ‘obvious destination’ for Harry Kane .
